Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico Interactions

Dr. de Mutsert serves on a working group established through NOAA RESTORE ACT Science Program funding, to examine the influence of the Mississippi River and its delta on the ecology of the Gulf of Mexico. While its well known that the Mississippi River is the largest contributor of freshwater, nutrients and sediments to the Gulf of Mexico, many of the intricacies of how this river influences the Gulf remain unknown. The overall goals of this project are to produce synthesis white- and peer-reviewed papers using data gathered from various sources during the project, as well as shorter papers on data gaps and areas for future research.
